Itineraries
We can arrange the following activities for you as part of your itinerary:
- Mountain Biking
For short breaks eg. team building we can arrange bike hire and vehicle hire including mechanic and support vehicles (Can do 1 day trips) - Walking and Cooking
Bring your notebook, pen and your camera. Walking locally during the morning and afternoon plus preparing meals. - Photography
Landscapes, people and animals, cultural photography - Painting Options
Wide range of landscapes, portrait and village scenes available - Walking Village
Walk the village route from Tighza to Assaka (Cave houses)
NOTE Since the road from Animeter to Ait Ben Haddou has been tarmaced the second day of the walk from Assaka to Tizghi is mostly walking along the road as there is no alternative route for that section of the valley. This has made it a less desirable trek. It is therefore now possible to walk from Tighza to Assaka then take transport from there to Ait Ben Haddou, if you prefer or local transport (minibus or taxi) to Tizghi, stay overnight and walk the rest of the way to Ait Ben Haddou (Some of the route on road, the rest through the valley mule routes and villages). - Mixed Itineraries
These include Homestays and gites (but eating with the families that own the gites). Suggestions and booking of Hotel and riad accommodation in Marrakech at places we know well and are recommended by past guests. Sahara experience from 1 night among the dunes to longer camel treks of several days. - Sahara Trips
4 x 4 and camel trips into the desert staying with Bedwins or Bivouacking. Bookings taken from September to May. In June, July and August is not advisable to travel in the Sahara due to the searing heat during the day. However one night stays are suited to July and August when you take the camel ride in the cooler part of the evening but before dark and return in the morning before the heat of the day.
For Sahara trips 4 x 4s and camels are required.
Homestay in Sahara - www.fayoufamily.com
We can book for you in advance or even once in Morocco. When booked through us payment must be made to the family on arrival in Sahara when 4 x 4 driver drops you off at the house. Self drive, someone from the family would need to meet you to accompany you to the house. - Camping
We can arrange mules required to carry baggage and tents etc. - Cultural Experience and Student Study Stays
Living and taking part in every day family life, visiting the local souk (Thursdays) immersing yourself in local culture. We have had students stay to revise as the valley is remote and there are few vehicles, cultural studies (lifestyle and ceremonial aspects around particular activities), journalism, photography, etc. Project related trips helping out in the local community. We cannot however offer language placements as Tighza is too far from any language schools. - Various Walking Options
Walking from easy to medium difficulty. Mountain walks, village walks, valley walks, longer several day fossil walks, lake walk, mule treks between locations (if you know where you want to go and you have the time to do it on a mule), short walks, half day walks, 1 day walks, treks for days etc.
We can suggest itineraries for you or if you have your own ideas we can make the arrangements, just book your flight and we'll take care of the rest!
Other Things To Do
There are also sites of interest in the local area surrounding Tighza including Telouet Kasbah, salt mines near Animeter, Thursday Souk in Telouet, Animal Souk on Wednesday, Lake Tamda, Kasbahs (Animeter the reportedly most fortified Village in Morocco), caves (Assaka), waterfalls, this area is also interesting from an astrological and geological stand point etc. With virtually no light pollution on clear nights it is possible to get slow exposure shots of the movement of the stars. Help making a carpet in a local home (there is almost always someone making a carpet and guests can help and learn how to make Berber carpets). (See Project Page ) Learning to cook if you want to know how to make a tagine, couscous, harira or Moroccan bread. Berber music evenings (if there are groups staying). You have the opportunity to attend fetes for weddings and births (Something not usually available unless you are staying with a family - subject to events happening during your visit).
