Accommodation

In Tighza the most popular Homestay is with the El Qasemy family whose house is traditionally built of stone and earth. There is a modern bathroom with hot shower and western style toilet. The house can accommodate individuals or groups of up to 8 to 10 people. (If the house is full we use other homes nearby with more basic washing and toilet facilities). Meals are at the El Qasemy house.

The other houses have squat toilets and showering or washing facilities (Berber douche - large bowls of hot and cold water) with waste water going down the squat toilet.  Traditional Berber houses have salons where you either sit on carpets and cushions at low tables to eat and take tea or sitting on mid height mattresses and eating from low tables.  Each of the houses has a long salon which can be used as a guest room for up to 5 people.  The El Qasemy house also has 2 bedrooms, 1 accommodating 2 people, the other accommodating up to 4.

We can arrange airport transfers if coming direct from Marrakech to the Tighza Valley and mules to carry your luggage to your host’s home if required.

Prices

Homestays cost £25 per adult per night including meals at the Homestay or picnic lunches for walks where applicable.

Children cost £10 per child per night between 6 and 12 years old (Under 5s free of charge).

For larger family groups our pricing is flexible, please advise of size of family and age of children.

Please pay Mohamed in Pounds Sterling or equivalent in US Dollars, Euros, or Moroccan Dirhams.  He makes the local payments to the other service providers in local currency.

Tipping is normal in Morocco. Please tip women at homestay families and the Kasbah (amount at your discretion), guides (around 100dh a day), 4 x 4 drivers (100dh to 150dh per day) and mule handlers (50dh a day). Small tips are given for service at cafes and restaurants and it is customary to leave a dirham for using public toilets.

Riad Kasbah Oliver and Homestays are sustainable tourism projects which directly benefit the local communities. Your money goes directly to the host families and the village to help improve the lives and environment of the people. We encourage guests to get more involved with project work, for example bringing childrens' clothes and shoes which are given to poor families - see the Projects webpage for more information.
